Morning glow

Have you ever wondered how to get the famous beautiful sun like glow? It all begins in the morning when you wash your face, having a good skin-cleansing regime is essential. There are many ways to wash your face, I have tried using brushes with bristles on them, brushes with plastic bumps on them, the rotating pads, countless face washes, and of course using a cloth to wash the face, i have tried them all! The one I loved the most and I recommend using is the Clarosonic. The results with this fabulous machine are noticeably smoother, and more radiant skin. This worked amazing for me! I love this product! My skin immediately felt and looked 10 times cleaner! It is my absolute favorite and i will never use anything else to wash my skin. I purchased it in a great bundle on QVC that included the Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, together they are the perfect tools to get your skin glowing!

The Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash is a two-in-one oil-free exfoliating wash for all skin type. It is a fresh, fruity cleanser that contains rose hip extract, milk thistle, passion flower and chamomile in a non-stripping formula that rebalances even the most schizophrenic of skins. BS153-fabulous-foam-washimages-7

The combination of the two work great removing all dead skin cells. It also helps your skin stay it’s freshest always, have you noticed that your makeup looks great some days and others it just looks off? It is more than likely because you have accumulated a lot of dead skin cells and make up. This causes the make up to lay on top of the extra dead skin, producing a dull, sometimes flakey and heavy feel on your face.

Not only is cleansing the first step in a healthy skin care ritual but it is also the most important.  The Clarosonic deeply cleanses the skin far more effectively, yet more gently, than traditional superficial cleansing or simple rotating brushes. It will also help unmask your natural glow!

Best Daycare in San Jose!

Dulce Ramos, English and Spanish major and Owner, from Angela’s Daycare has been up and running for about two and a half years. Her business provides day and after school care for infants to 12-year-old children. It also offers preschool care. “ I started by filing for a license with the county, taking classes and setting up my home to accommodate the program and children. I had the experience working with children in a school setting,” she said. One of the many resources she used was Google, to post her business information. Ramos also joined many networking groups to help her get better informed on how to make her business grow.

Angela’s Daycare is being advertised by using client referrals, the business website, business cards and online postings. Ramos said the biggest challenges she faced are, “ Getting clients, dealing with parents, adjusting to 12 hour days and having to work on weekends.” Some advice she would give to someone starting a business is, “ Plan everything out and make sure to network with other people doing the same thing.” Having skeptical thoughts of opening a business Ramos said, “Doubting yourself is a given when starting a business. Being self-employed is risky but has many benefits. I encountered people telling me it was a bad idea, but I kept to my goals and proceeded.” Starting a new business can be difficult, there are so many resources at your local library and online that can help you start.

Here are a few websites that can help you get started:

Trashion fashion show

The Trashion Fashion show at SJSU was phenomenal. Trash bags, newspaper and electrical wire were just some of the materials that SJSU designers used.

First place winner Ashley Bachman, a sophomore industrial design major, was inspired to participate in the 2013 Trashion Fashion show because she saw it as a challenge to combine the idea of recycled goods with fashion. She said the piece was inspired by electronics because they are one of the largest contributors to land fills and people do not know how to recycle them properly. “There’s a lot of precious metals you can get from electrical wire if you properly recycle them and if you don’t there are a lot of hazardous chemicals that will leach into our water streams.” Bachman said.

This is Associated Students’ fourth year hosting the Trashion Fashion Show, with the goal of creating awareness of post-consumer waste and clothing, according to Victor Hernandez, a sophomore history major. “The purpose of Trashion Fashion is to endorse being green on campus, to help designers and models. The most difficult part is the week or day before the event because everything is not certain. The most exciting part is the show itself,” Hernandez said.

The event took place on April 23, 2013 in front of the Campus Village quad. Designers competed for the most eco-friendly designs during the first part of the show. During the second part, Models strutted down the runway in clothes from Crossroads Trading Co., a local second-hand fashion shop.

Out of the blue, a dress made entirely out of newspaper, I used staples, scotch tape and glue to hold the dress together. To hold the dress closed I used 4 inches of Velcro. Modeled by Cosmetologist, AnaBrenda Carrillo.

“I was so excited to be in the show that when it was my turn on the catwalk I got a little nervous, but the excitement took over me and I loved every second of it,” Andrea Carriedo, a model and freshman liberal studies major said. Carriedo modeled a dress made entirely of Spartan Daily newspapers. The dress won second place and was designed by me, Daisy Carriedo-Sandoval, graduate student.

For the SJSU designers, models and fashion-minded students, this was an opportunity to show off their skills, help build their resumes and help others be more aware of recycling.

College textbooks for sale!

According to the Kauffman foundation, a small-business research and education group, higher percentage of Americans started their own businesses each month in 2008 than they did in 2007. Anthony Siu from San Jose State University took a few minutes of his busy schedule to give some advice and share his experience.

What is MyTuti LLC? “MyTuti is a website for college students to get in touch with other classmates to buy or sell textbooks in their local campus with no charges or fees. MyTuti’s mission is to help college students save money by making textbooks more affordable.” Said Architect Anthony Siu, Information Systems major, of MyTuti LLC. There is a lot of different ways to starting a business Siu said, “We started by researching what it would take to create a website and to start a new business. It felt very overwhelming when you first start because there are a lot of details that you need to pay attention to, including the safety and security of your end-users and the liability that comes with running a business. Fortunately, the Internet is your friend and there are a lot of helpful websites that will give you good tutorials on any subject you need to research. It took us a little over two months from the inception of the idea to actually publishing the website.” Some resources Siu used to start the company, “We used the Internet as the resource for all our needs including looking up code samples, browsing forums for debugging issues, and researching how to start a limited liability company. We have been up and running about 2 ½ months now. Some of the advertising and promotions MyTuti has are the use of social media, volunteers passing out flyers at local colleges and universities.”

How does someone start their own business without getting into debt?? Siu advised, “To start a business, I would suggest a person to save rather than to get into debt. However, there are alternative options. You can start out with a good idea that will fit a need, create a business plan for it and try to get seed money from potential investors by promoting your plan to the right audience.

Starting a new online business is become the next biggest move, the biggest challenges Siu has faced in this position are, “Promoting the website. We have been somewhat successful in the Bay Area because we have friends who help spread the word. However, promoting a larger audience across the nation is somewhat difficult.” Siu’s advice to others wanting to start their own business is, “Start with a good idea and draft an actionable business plan. Have partners you can trust and get along with. Do your research and pay attention to all the fine details. Pursue your dreams.” Many people often doubt the talk of a new business because of the way the economy now. Many people doubt the idea of starting a new business Siu said, “Some people dissuaded us from starting the business because they didn’t think it would be profitable. Even if it turns out not to be profitable, the knowledge and experience obtained from this venture has been invaluable to us. We all have doubts and insecurities on our own capabilities. It is important that you keep motivated on your goal and you will find a way to make things happen.”

Students taking care of business!

The army of self-employed people is on the rise, although the economy is in a recession. Some students from San Jose State University that have started their own business, took a few minutes of their busy schedule to give some advice and share their experience.

Danny Dihn, business administration major, Chief of Business Development of Infinite Winds, “Imagine a place where fashion and culture combine.” Infinite Wins LLC has recently developed a new website, ArrayIndex.com, a fashion boutique where users can purchase trendy clothes from the latest brands. Dihn first became interested in the fashion business when it was mentioned to him by a couple of friends. The legal paper work took his company about three months to obtain, when it typically can take anywhere from three to six months. “We have been up and running for three months,” said Dihn about ArrayIndex. There are a lot of challenges when opening up a business one in particular that Dihn mentioned was creativity. One of Dihn’s professional goals is, “Hopefully down the road have some charity system to be connected to the business,” so his company can give back to the community. Dihn’s advice for starting a business is, “Be a team player, have leadership skills.” A suggestion he made that will help organize a structure in business was, “You have to join a club or an organization because they have a structure of their own. You at least learn the structure, what they do, how they organize, the skills that they have.”

Starting a business as a full-time student from the ground up can be at times lonely and stressful, check daily for more interviews to help you with your start up!

All Natural Hair dye, with Henna!

I am tired of using damaging chemicals on my hair. Every time I dye my hair, I have several strands fall out plus the chemicals smell so bad! I looked around for natural hair dye and I found Henna by Rainbow. Henna is an all-natural, plant-based dye that conditions hair, is gentle and nontoxic. The process was simple: Mix Henna powder with hot water and to add extra shine an egg and Olive oil. It smells like steamed grass! I applied it to my hair then put on a cap and let it process for 60 minutes. I was in a rush so I left my pretty pink dress on and it was not pretty! The henna started drying into little balls; they fell off my hair and onto my clothes. The henna is heavy; it felt like a pile of mud on my head! 😉 It dried like mud, soft at first then it was hard and started cracking. I used the tub to wash my hair. There is a lot of product, it is hard, dry, and it takes a bit time to wash out thoroughly. The henna stained my tub a little bit but I scrubbed it and it came off. End result: I have a few gray hairs and those were completely covered! 🙂 My hair is curly and fine. The henna made my strands feel thicker, soft and so much shinier! This was a super different hair dyeing experience for me. Honestly it seemed like a bit more work, the longer processing time, extra washing and the after smell of steamed grass on your head, my head smelled for two days. Some recommendations: Henna will only work if you want a hint of color, like a tint. If you want to transform your hair color it won’t do much.  After using henna you must wait four weeks to dye hair, with chemical based dyes, the henna is on your hair like a shield so the dye won’t work well with you. If you have old dye in your hair, henna will not even your hair out. Is it worth it? Yes! Thicker, fuller, shinier, healthy and bouncy hair seems like a good deal to me! 🙂 Would I do it again? Yes! I will wait 4 weeks and use a lighter shade of brown and add some lemon juice, to give my hair highlights!
